BS7858 Clearance 

BS7858 screening guidelines for those that work in secure environments as defined by British Standards Institute 

BS7858 clearance is a code of practice set by the BSI which provides an employment screening standard for companies looking to meet the high standards required for candidates working in a secure or high-risk environment. It is the background screening of individuals employed in an environment where the security and safety of people, goods or property is a requirement of the employing organisation’s operations or where such security screening is in the public interest. 

The BS7858:2019 comprises the following checks

Individual Checks

  • Proof of Identity check and confirmation 
  • Proof of Address and Address History verification 
  • Right to Work check  
  • SIA Licence check (where applicable) 
  • Sanction check (global watchlists, sanctions and fraud databases) 

Financial Checks

  • Five-year credit and financial check 
    • Bankruptcy / Insolvency / IVA 
    • CCJ  

Employment Checks

  • Five or Ten year employment history 
  • Gap referencing (all career gaps over 31 days to be covered by evidence documents, covering the beginning, middle and end of each gap) 

Criminal Record Check

  •  Basic or Standard Disclosure, depending on guidelines / industry sector
